Post 1: Starting out.

Our first week of class really set the tone for what’s to come in the rest of the semester. It’s going to be a lot of work, but I think the whole class is up for it.

Technology wise, I feel pretty comfortable with most of what we will be using class. I have experience with blogs and wikis already, but it is always great to have a refresher on the basics and also see how some of these specific tools may have changed since the last time I’ve used them. I’m really looking forward to learning how to use the Adobe Captivate software to create training materials. There have several times that I wished that I had experience with a tool like to create some screen captures. (I won’t lie about being a little nervous for the data modeling assignments. Looking at the example in class made me have flashbacks to Jr. Jigh math classes or something.)

I also feel pretty good about working in teams in this class. What’s great about elective courses is that the people in there are genuinely interested in the topic and are ready to learn compared to some of the core classes. The one thing I’m worried about is being able take our individual visions and meld them together to achieve our goals. It may take some time at first, but I know that we can do it.

Yeah, the whole idea of data modeling makes me cringe. I am NOT a math person by any means. I am horrible at math, always have been. Let's just hope the examples and illustrations will be plain enough for me to follow along.

You have a wonderfully positive attitude, Shaun. I'll try to avoid turning this into a junior high math class experience. I still shudder at the thought...
